Start Your Own Earthworm Farm – Grow Green, Earn Clean

Looking for a sustainable side business or eco-friendly hobby? An Earthworm Farm is a simple, low-maintenance way to turn food scraps into valuable products like compost and worm tea—all while creating the potential for a small income stream. Whether you're a gardener, homesteader, or aspiring entrepreneur, earthworm farming is a rewarding way to give back to the soil and generate value from waste.

At Vaskap Kariba Erdwurms, we supply starter kits designed to help anyone—beginner or seasoned grower—set up a working worm farm. Our kits include red Kariba earthworms, a bin system, and basic instructions to get you composting and harvesting like a pro.

Why Start an Earthworm Farm?

Earthworm farming is more than just composting — it’s a way to create rich fertiliser for your garden or to sell to others. It’s scalable, natural, and doesn’t require a lot of space or time. Whether you're looking to reduce household waste, grow better plants, or sell worm by-products, starting a worm farm is an excellent way to begin your green journey.

How It Works – Step by Step

  1. Set Up Your Bins
Use a two-bin system where worms live in the top bin and excess moisture (worm tea) collects below.
  2. Add Your Worms
Introduce your red Kariba earthworms into moist bedding made from paper, soil, and compost.
  3. Feed the Worms
Regularly add kitchen scraps like vegetable peels, fruit, and coffee grounds. Avoid meat and dairy.
  4. Harvest Compost & Tea
After a few weeks, collect the worm castings (vermicast) for your garden and drain the liquid worm tea.
  5. Repeat & Grow
Keep feeding and harvesting. As your worm population grows, so can your production—or even your business.
